Conway Company is a fundraising consulting firm offering capital campaign management, planning studies and prospect research to nonprofit organizations located east of the Mississippi River. Other services include annual, major gifts and planned giving programs, board recruitment and training and development assessments.
Why did you get involved in charity work?
I became involved in charitable work to help people. By counseling nonprofit organizations in advancement activities, I’m able to leverage my skills and influence so that a better, more just society results.
How can charitable giving be improved?
Nonprofit organizations should learn more about prospects and donors through research. Having such knowledge will encourage more appropriate solicitations and eventually will promote larger, more consistent contributions.
What can nonprofits do to improve their fundraising or operations?
In order to improve fundraising, senior staff (executive directors and development officers) and board members should commit to making a defined number of calls (solicitations) each month. Stewardship demands nothing less.
What changes would you like to see in the charitable sector?
I’d like to see foundations become more accountable, more generous and bigger thinkers.
