Fund gets $20 million for low-income community projects

* Nonprofit Finance Fund received $20 million allocation from U.S. Community Development Financial Institutions to finance community facility projects in low-income areas in New York City and across country.

* Yale School of Management announced creation of Yale Center for Corporate Governance and Performance with $20 million in gifts from individual and corporate donors; Yale College alum David Nierenberg and wife Patricia donated $10 million.

* Robert Wood Johnson Foundation launched three-year, $4.5 million program to reduce emotional and behavioral problems of children in low-income, refugee- and immigrant-dense communities.

* Allegheny County, Penn., unveiled HumanServices.net, website with database of 3,000 social service and related agencies.

* TechSoup, nonprofit website providing free computer software to nonprofits, added 20 Adobe software titles to donation program.

* History Channel and American Association for State and Local History honored with Silver Halo Award, Best Social Service/Education Program, at annual Cause Marketing Forum conference.

* Nonprofit Sector and Philanthropy Program of Aspen Institute announced minority student fellowship program with grants of $2,500 to $5,000 based on academic excellence and need.

* Association of Junior Leagues International named seven new board members; Sandi Kemmish, former president and program officer, Lincoln Financial Group Foundation, named president.

* American College of Radiology announced launch of e-campus initiative on LearnSomething platform Isoph Blue for online radiology education.

* Red, White and Green Campaign announced, with 60 $500 grants for people ages 15 to 25 to create community service projects addressing climate change.

* Royal Govain, Montreal, former executive director, external affairs, Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital, appointed as first CEO of Grenzebach Glier Canada, arm of Chicago-based international nonprofit management consulting firm.

* Dow Jones vice president Paul Steiger and South Florida-based financiers E. Roe Stamps IV and Earl W. Powell elected to John S. and James L. Knight Foundation board of trustees.

* California Endowment, private, state-wide health foundation, announced appointment of new program officer Carol Casaday, formerly independent human services consultant.

* Elizabeth Warner, loan officer, Peoples First Community Bank, Shalimar, Fla., will donate three percent of personal commission and $5 from new account referrals to Children in Crisis, nonprofit working to house abused and neglected children in Okaloosa and Walton counties in Florida.

* Group of 19 Wellesley students and staff spent week in Slidell, La., working on hurricane relief with Habitat for Humanity, with six students continuing work in New Orleans through August.

* World Land Trust announced eligibility as charity that can receive proceeds from auctions on eBay through middleman charity Mission Fish.

* Vintage Affaire, wine auction benefiting Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Palo Alto, Calif., will take place July 22 in Palo Alto.

* Hewlett Packard and Advanced Micro Devices announced next phase of initiative to support Lance Armstrong Foundation with creation of special edition notebook computer with proceeds benefiting LAF.

* America’s Promise – The Alliance for Youth announced partnership with Houston businesses and nonprofits to launch Houston’s Kids, community-based initiative to give academic, psychological, nutritional help to children affected by Hurricane Katrina.

* Ceres and Noble Foundation announced collaboration to develop and commercialize new biomass crops aimed at fuel ethanol production.
