Charity on ice - Microsoft workers face off

Thanks to a collaboration with the Seattle Thunderbirds Hockey Club, Microsoft employees will meet on the ice to raise $1 million for the Seattle Ronald McDonald House.

Teams representing the Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Windows development departments have been training with Thunderbirds coaching staff for the event, which will precede a game between the Seattle Thunderbirds and the Tri-City Americans.

The charity match at Seattle’s KeyArena will be officiated by Microsoft executives.

Corporate sponsors including Compaq and Mission Critical Software have pledged $570,000 to the event.  Three dollars from each ticket sale will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House. 

Hockey competition among Microsoft employees grew into a charity event in 1999 that raised more than $10,000 for Ronald McDonald House, a nonprofit residence for families of children who are being treated at Children’s Hospital.
