The North Carolina Justice Center is a statewide nonprofit advocacy organization which promotes programs and policies which lead to economic security for low income families and the communities in which they live. The Justice Center’s Education and Law Project seeks to improve educational opportunities and outcomes for minority and at-risk students. The project uses a combination of education research, policy advocacy, training, organizing and litigation to achieve success.

The Policy Analyst/Advocacy Coordinator would work closely with the Project Director to carry out the work of the Education and Law Project.

Specific responsibilities of the Analyst/Coordinator would include:

  1. Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge and expertise in the field of education policy;
  2. Be informed about education policy developments at the state and federal level;
  3. Work in conjunction with the Project Director to identify specific education policy reform initiatives to be carried out.
  4. Educate the public, including community based groups concerning education policy issues and reforms;
  5. Conduct research and produce reports, fact sheets and other materials on education policy issues.

6.    Coordinate and facilitate the Education and Law Project’s nationally recognized training program “Education Leadership Institute” (ELI).

7.    Maintain and develop ongoing relationships with elected officials and education advocacy groups in the state.

8.    Work with the Project Director to support the work and build the membership of NC-CARE

9.    Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications: The Analyst/Coordinator must be a self-starter with knowledge of education law and policy reform; excellent oral, written and presentation skills; the ability to identify emerging education policy issues; the ability to work effectively in collaboration with community groups (particularly people of color); and  a passion for improving education opportunities and outcomes for low income students, their families and communities. Experience in education reform or policy analysis preferred.
