The Furniture Society, a non-profit arts organizationwhose mission is to advancethe art of furniture making, by inspiring creativity, promoting excellence, andfostering an understanding of this art, seeks an Executive Director toprovide overall vision, leadership and direction of The Furniture Society’sprograms and services. The successful candidate will be a creative,entrepreneurial and arts visionary providing strategic leadership to fulfillthe mission, vision and strategic plan of The Furniture Society. She/he willhave demonstrated facility in public speaking, written and oral communicationas a passionate advocate for craft, art and design in general, and specificallyStudio Furniture. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Trusteesand supervises our office manager, part-time staff and member volunteers.  Specific Responsibilities include: §      Manage day-to-day operationsof the Society, including the hiring and supervision of staff, maintenanceof office, data base and website functions. §      Work collaboratively with theBoard to determine annual program activities and longer-term initiatives recommendedin the strategic plan.§      Prepare and manage annualoperating budget, including special project budgets.§      Develop and implement fundraisingefforts, including grant writing, individual solicitations and corporatesponsorships.§      In concert with theconference committee, plan and implement all aspects of the annual conference§      Manage special programactivities of the Society, including but not limited to participation in such showsas ICFF, Society-sponsored exhibitions and
 publishing.
§      Promote and sustainmembership in the Society§      Represent the Society in a highly visible role as themost tangible agent of the Society for our community.§      Coordinate committeefunctions, schedules and reports, and prepare for annual meetings of the Board. Qualifications The Furniture Society seeks astrong leader and skilled administrator with a minimum of five years experienceas an executive director or senior manager in a nonprofit organization. Theideal candidate will hold a Bachelors Degree and have extensive administrativeand business experience in the visual arts, arts education or arts managementfields. She/he will have background and success in fundraising and eventplanning; strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop relationshipswith members, donors, staff and community.   The candidate will have asuccessful track record of nonprofit fiscal management, including budgeting andgrant writing, have a high level of energy, and the ability to manage a complexset of tasks and deadlines.
