Charlotte fund makes last round of grants

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Ten nonprofits in Mecklenburg County will receive a total of more than $437,000 in the last round of grants from the Critical Need Response Fund, a local collaborative effort.

The fund, a four-month emergency-relief initiative launched last December, has awarded a total of $2.5 million to nonprofits in Mecklenburg County.

Among the latest donations to the fund are $10,000 from the Jimmie Johnson Foundation, $5,000 from the NASCAR Foundation and $25,000 from the Presbyterian Hospital Foundation.

The following nonprofits will receive grants:

* Loaves and Fishes, $125,000

* The Salvation Army Center of Hope, $75,000

* Second Harvest Food Bank, $50,000

* Crisis Assistance Ministry, $50,000

* Hope Haven, $39,264

* Uptown Shelter, $36,770

* Friendship Trays, $35,527

* Urban Restoration, $10,000

* Nexus Urban Serve, $8,500

* Charlotte Rescue Mission, $7,000
