CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Critical Need Response Fund, which has raised over $2.7 million in donations from corporations, businesses,, families and individuals, has awarded its first round of grants to nonprofits serving the needy in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.
Administered at no cost by Foundation for the Carolinas, the fund is making $742,163 to nine agencies that provide food, shelter, clothing and assistance with rent and utility payments.
Including grants already distributed to organizations designed by donors, the fund will have given over $1.7 million.
"The organizations receiving these grants are providing direct assistance to our neighbors in need," says Michael Marsicano, president and CEO of Foundation for the Carolinas. "It's wonderful to see the community banding together like this to provide for those among us who are suffering the worst effects of the economic downturn."
Agencies receiving grants from the fund include A Child's Place; Ada Jenkins Center; Crisis Assistance Ministry; Cup Ministry; Hope Haven; Love Inc.; Nexus Urban Serve; Salvation Army; and Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.
