WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Joe Crocker, assistant secretary for community development for the state Department of Commerce and a former executive at Wachovia and the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, has been named director of the Poor and Needy Division of the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust in Winston-Salem.

Crocker, who begins his new job May 3, succeeds Pam Wyatt, who died Nov. 20 after a recurrence of melanoma.

Before joining the administration of Gov. Beverly Perdue, Crocker served as a program officer and director of operations at the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, and also served as interim executive director.

He previously had worked 26 years in leadership positions at Wachovia, including senior vice president and Carolinas community affairs manager.

A native of Kings Mountain, he holds a bachelor of science/bachelor of arts degree from Western Carolina University, with a concentration in business law.

The Poor and Needy Division of the Reynolds Trust receives one-fourth of grant funds the trust distributes and focuses on basic life needs of financially-needy people in Forsyth County.
