Foundation awards scholarships

RALEIGH, N.C. - The North Carolina Community Foundation has awarded a total of more than $882,200 in scholarships and related grants to students across the state in 2009.

The Raleigh-based funder and its 60 affiliate foundations awarded $420,680 in scholarships directly to North Carolina students, and awarded another $461,538 in grants to educational institutions for scholarships.

"We are extremely proud to partner with our affiliates, fund-holders and donors to help deserving students and adults further their education," Jennifer Tolle-Whiteside, CEO of the foundation, says in a statement. "These scholarships and grants make meaningful differences in the lives of hundreds of North Carolinians and have a significant impact on our state."

The funding brings to more than $4.6 million the total the foundation has awarded in grants during 2009.

Information on scholarships for next year will be available on the foundation's website in February.
