Foundation for the Carolinas gets new home

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- In 2011, Foundation for the Carolinas will move its headquarters to a central-cityCharlottebuilding donated by Bank of America.

The buildingon North Tryon Streetis occupied by the Mint Museum of Craft + Design, which will relocate in 2010to the cultural campus now under construction as part ofCharlotte-Mecklenburg's cultural facilities master plan.

The larger quarterswill be home to the foundation's new Center for Civic Leadership, an initiativethat will help the public, private and nonprofit sectors share information andideas and push for change.

A $3.3 milliongrant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation will fund the expansionof the center's first major effort, Crossroads Charlotte.

The centerwill use the investment to grow the number of organizations participating inthe program, which aims to create a community that is accessible, inclusive andequitable for area citizens.

The firstfloor of the new headquarters building will be dedicated to Sonia and IsaacLuski, Charlottearts collectors and philanthropists, in recognition of their recent gift of artto the foundation.

The art works,which represent a major portion of the couple's collection, will be on view atthe foundation.
