ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- The Mission Healthcare Foundation in Asheville has received over $100 million in gifts, grants and pledges since it was formed 25 years ago, Anna S. "Candy" Shivers, a member of boards of the foundation and the Mission Health System it support, says in a guest opinion column May 2 in the Citizens-Times.
The foundation supports 125-year-old Mission Hospital, which employs 7,000 people.
Funds contributed to the foundation have supported the system's Owen Heart Center; Mission Children's Hospital and its dental and autism programs; pediatric specialists; Reuter Children's Outpatient Center; continuing education for bedside nurses; Stroke Center and Chest Pain Center; medical helicopter; disaster-preparedness supplies and equipment; and a 50-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery and a new Mother-Baby unit.
