RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, in partnership with the Land Trust Alliance, has given the Conservation Trust for North Carolina a three-year grant of $450,000.
The grant will support an initiative to help local land trusts pass accreditation, serve a more diverse group of people, and increase funding for land protection.
"This grant challenges us to be better leaders and representatives of all our neighbors who care about protecting clean air and water, saving our state's working farms and forests, and making sure the things we love about North Carolina are preserved for generations," Margaret Newbold, associate director of Conservation Trust for North Carolina, says in a statement.
The initiative will build on a strategic plan developed in 2003 with the support of the Reynolds Foundation to make land trusts more integrated and efficient.
Conservation Trust for North Carolina promotes the state's 24 local land trusts, which have protected over 286,000 acres in more than 1,660 places across the state.
