Ten health nonprofits receive grants

RALEIGH, N.C. - In celebration of its 20^th year, the North Carolina Healthy Start Foundation awarded grants to 10 nonprofits throughout the state that aim to improve the health of women of reproductive age.

The following organizations and government agencies will receive grants over a three-month period:

* Lifeline Pregnancy Help Center -- $3,000

* Raleigh Top Ladies of Distinction -- $2,525

* Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Campaign of North Carolina -- $2,300

* Martin Tyrell Washington District Health Department -- $2,000

* Piedmont Health Services -- $2,000

* Wilson County Health Department -- $1,820

* Jones County Health Department -- $1,675

* Anson County Partnership for Children -- $1,500

* Safe Journey/Adolescent Parenting Program -- $1,500

* Breastfeeding Encouragement Learning Liaison and Support -- $1,200 

The foundation will award additional grants at the end of January and in February, with priority given to areas of North Carolina with high rates of infant mortality, teen pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, drug use and other risk factors.
