Women’s fund accepting grant applications

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Women's Impact Fund is accepting letters of inquiry from nonprofits in Mecklenburg County for its 2008-09 grantmaking cycle.

The fund will award five grants, ranging from $40,000 to $100,000, to nonprofits that address needs and emerging issues in each of the fund's focus areas -- arts and culture; education; health; human services; and environment.

Letters of inquiry are due Oct. 27, although early submissions are strongly encouraged. The letter of inquiry form is available at the fund's website.

Founded in 2003, the Women's Impact Fund aims to maximize women's leadership in philanthropy, and educates more than 460 members about issues affecting the community.

The fund so far has donated $1.4 million.
