CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Arts & Science Council raised just over $7 million in its 2009 annual fund drive, falling 37 percent short of its $11.2 million goal.
"We knew this campaign was going to be challenging due to the current economic environment and fundraising climate," Lee Keesler, president and CEO of the council, says in a statement. "We are very grateful for those individuals, businesses and corporations who gave what they could to support the cultural community through a gift to ASC."
The fund drive was led by Sue Gorman, owner of Sue Gorman Interior Designs, and James Jackson, division executive for the southeast division of Bank of America.
The council expects to invest more than $14.5 million to support arts education, science, cultural projects and heritage organizations in Mecklenburg County during fiscal year 2008-09.
Though the fund drive is over, the council still is accepting donations on its website.
