Cameron Art Museum receives $75,000

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington has received three grants totaling $75,000 from the North Carolina Arts Council.

The grants will support the museum's general programs, the development of the Minnie Evans Study Center, and an artist residency program that will send Hiroshi Sueyoshi, artist-in-residence at the Cameron's clay studio, out into New Hanover County high schools.

"Without public support, we couldn't sustain the qualitative level of programming our community has come to expect," Deborah Velders, director of the Cameron, says in a statement.

The North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the state Department of Cultural Resources, awards grants to arts programs in the state that encourage community involvement.

In addition to exhibitions and a permanent collection, the museum offers interdisciplinary programs, ceramics classes and special programs for children and Alzheimer's patients.
