Chamber execs get Ford fellowships

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Leaders at three local chambers of commerce in the Triangle have been chosen to receive Regionalism and Sustainable Development Fellowships from the New York City-based Ford Foundation.

The American Chamber of Commerce selected 50 chamber executives from across the U.S. to participate in the program, which provides fellows with hands-on training, knowledge exchange with peers, and relevant research.

The local participants are Drew Moretz, vice president of government affairs at the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce; Jodi Ann LaFreniere, executive director of the Wake Forest Chamber; and Aaron Nelson, president and CEO of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber.

During the one-year program, fellows will learn about issues related to sustainability, including infrastructure, immigration, housing and education, as well as policies that can affect the development of competitive economies.

Over the course of the fellowship, each participant will create a regional action plan designed to overcome a particular challenge within two years of completion of the program.
