Chapel and students give back

HIGH POINT, N.C. -- High Point University's Hayworth Chapel Board of Stewards and the Student Government Association have been working to give back to the community for the holidays.

The Board of Stewards continued its yearly tradition of donating its entire fall offerings to the Salvation Army of High Point's Angel Tree program.

The Angle Tree provides clothing, toys and other gifts for children who otherwise might not receive holiday presents.

This year, the board gave $6,404.40, enough to give gifts to 156 local children.

High Point University's Student Government Association helped out by giving additional funds and shopping for some of the needed items.

"It is important for the students to do this because there are needy people in our community," Hal Warlick, dean of Hayworth Chapel, says in a statement. "Those people deserve our help at Christmas time, and the Salvation Army assists in ways that help preserve the dignity of those families."

High Point University is a liberal arts institution with over 3,400 students across two campuses in High Point and Winston-Salem.
