CHARLOTTE, N.C.
- Professional and volunteer fundraisers in the Charlotte area will be recognized for their
contributions at a luncheon Nov. 18.
The Charlotte
chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals singled out seven
individuals and three organizations that have worked to boost nonprofits and
the people they serve:
Outstanding Champion of Diversity: Deborah
Whitfield, child advocate attorney for Council for Children's Rights
Outstanding Philanthropist: Nicholas T. Goudes,
civic leader and entrepreneur
Outstanding Emerging Philanthropist: Marc
Gustafson, assistant general counsel for LendingTree
Outstanding Philanthropic Small Business:
Merriman Schmitt Architects
Outstanding Legacy: The late Mr. and Mrs.
Matthew Barber, who bequeathed the majority of their estate to Holy Angels
Outstanding Student Philanthropy: Johnson &
Wales Student Alumni Association
Outstanding Philanthropic Organization: Women's
Impact Fund, donor-advised fund of Foundation for the Carolinas
Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser: Elaine Lyerly,
president and CEO of The Lyerly Agency
Outstanding Professional Fundraising Executive:
E.J. Underwood, director of development for the Charlotte Rescue Mission
The honorees will be recognized at the 2009 Philanthropy Day
Awards, to be held Nov. 18 from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Charlotte
Convention Center.
