Charlotte United Way funds basic needs

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Using funds from a federal program developed to help hungry and homeless Americans, United Way of Central Carolinas awarded a total of $637,869 to local agencies.

Funds from the federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program were allocated to nine groups in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area that provide emergency food and shelter services:

  • Crisis Assistance Ministry, $316,750
  • Loaves & Fishes, $44,750
  • Salvation Army, $58,925
  • Charlotte Emergency Housing, $19,750
  • Uptown Shelter, $92,750
  • Second Harvest Food Bank, $39,750
  • United Way of Central Carolinas, for advertisement, $2,957
  • Emergency Winter Shelter, $54,350
  • With Friends, $7,887
