DOT to participate in health study

A new study involving employees of the N.C. Department of Transportation aims to identify workplace settings and policies to boost workers' long-term health.

With a grant from AstraZeneca, North Carolina Prevention Partners is launching a worksite-wellness study that will focus on helping transportation workers stop smoking, eat healthy foods, control their stress and increase their physical activity.

The study is an extension of the Department of Transportation's Highway to Health program and aims to help employs prevent chronic diseases.

"This study is unique in that it N.C. Prevention Partners will investigate the effects of health programs aimed at individuals, company-wide wellness policies and the effect of both working together," Laura Linnan, a national expert on work-site wellness, says in a statement. "This study will allow us to produce new knowledge needed in work-site health promotion.
