Duque tapped to lead InterAct

RALEIGH, N.C. - Leigh Griffin Duque has been named the new executive director of InterAct of Wake County, succeeding Adam Hartzell, who stepped down in April to join the N.C. Department of Justice.

The move is a homecoming of sorts for Duque, who in her former role as executive director of the YWCA of the Greater Triangle, helped orchestrate the sale of the YWCA's Oberlin Road facility to InterAct about three years ago.

Duque, a 25-year veteran of the nonprofit sector, comes to her new position from Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines, where she served as chief development officer.

Her experience working with women and girls likely will be useful at InterAct, which supports and protects victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and provides the county's only confidential residential program for women escaping abusive relationships.

"Her wealth of nonprofit and community experience, track record of management success and commitment to InterAct's mission will be valued assets in our innovative and ongoing efforts to keep families throughout Wake County, North Carolina and America safe," Tucker Shade, an InterAct board member, says in a statement.
