Family-services groups in Charlotte merge

MATTHEWS, N.C. -- Two Charlotte-based agencies serving at-risk children and families in North Carolina have merged their operations services.

Combining Thompson Child & Family Focus with The Family Center, the merged agency will have an operating budget of $15 million and employ almost 200 people.

Administrative headquarters for the merged agency, which combines the two organizations' services, programming, staff and operations in an effort to avoid duplication, will be located on the Thompson campus

at 6800 Saint Peter's Lane in Matthews.

Thompson Child & Family Focus began as an orphanage in 1886 and has provided clinical and behavioral treatment, developmental education and proactive care for local children and families.

The Family Center, a child-abuse-prevention agency, has provided therapeutic, educational and preventative services.
