Fundraisers name award recipients

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals announced the recipients of its 2008 National Philanthropy Day Awards, which recognize philanthropists' and fundraisers' contributions to the community.

This year's winners are:

  • Outstanding Champion of Diversity -- Bridget Anne Hampden, civic leader; and Tom Warshauer, economic development manager, city of Charlotte
  • Outstanding Philanthropist -- John Crosland Jr., former chairman and CEO, Crosland Inc.
  • Outstanding Emerging Philanthropist -- Liz Simmons, civic leader
  • Outstanding Philanthropic Small Business -- Edifice Inc.
  • Outstanding Legacy -- James M. and Ellen L. Ross (posthumously)
  • Outstanding Student Philanthropy - Laura Mesec, student, University of North Carolina, Charlotte
  • Outstanding Philanthropic Organization -- Autobell Car Wash
  • Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser -- Judy Harrison Barry, civic leader
  • Outstanding Professional Fundraising Executive -- Dean Jones, senior vice president of financial development, YMCA of Greater Charlotte

The 17th Annual National Philanthropy Day Awards luncheon will be held Nov. 10 from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Westin Hotel in Charlotte.
