Fundraising chief leaving WakeMed

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Kevin McCarthy, the chief fundraising official at WakeMed in Raleigh, has resigned to return to his former job as the chief fundraising official at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, N.J.

McCarthy, who starts his new job Jan. 14, worked for 10 years as vice president for development and public affairs at Holy Name and executive director of its foundation before joining WakeMed in October 2004 as vice president for development and executive director of its foundation.

He says he was recruited for his old job by his former boss.

Jack Radford, administrative director for the WakeMed Foundation, has been named interim director.

WakeMed has raised $23.9 million in a campaign launched in 2004 that aims to raise $50 million.

Those totals include over $4 million raised through an effort launched a year ago to raise $20 million for a new children's hospital.

WakeMed raised more money in 2008 than any other year in its history.
