Greensboro arts fund distributes $629,500

After raising $1.43 million in the fiscal year ended June 30, short of its $1.6 million goal, United Arts Council of Greater Greensboro has distributed $629,500 to 19 organizations and artists through a new "Cultural Partner Grant Investment" program.

The council also has set a goal of raising $1.43 million in the fiscal year that began July 1.

United Arts Council will be making additional grants in the current fiscal year to schools and artists, including a total of $10,000 for schools and a total of $15,000 for artists, says Jeanie Duncan, president and CEO.

Of the total dollars United Arts Council raises, roughly 30 percent covers the costs of services, including advocacy, marketing, public art, and volunteer recruitment and placement.

In the fiscal year ended June 30, United Arts Council granted a total of $12,856 to 10 schools; $15,000 to 12 artists; $15,000 to four groups through the Piedmont Triad Initiative for Community Arts; and $679,997 to 13 other groups through its Strategic Partner Investments program.

The council set its funding priorities for the fiscal year that started July 1 based on community feedback from nearly 2,000 residents.

Funding was open to organizations and individual artists that showed how their work promotes one or more of the council's strategic priorities.

Those include serving and engaging the diverse community; positioning Greensboro as a recognized cultural destination; and fostering education of children through the arts.
