RALEIGH, N.C. - As Triangle residents bend to the summer work of tending their gardens, a local charity and garden center are enlisting help to feed the hungry.
Logan Trading Company and Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, both in Raleigh, have launched "Plant a Row for the Hungry," a campaign to encourage gardeners to plant a little extra produce to donate to hungry Triangle residents.
The effort, based on a national initiative started by the Garden Writers Association, will run to September 26.
Donations of produce will be collected at Logan Trading each Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, or to the Food Shuttle weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Donations of canned and dried foods, as well as lightly-used gardening tools, are encouraged.
