GOLDSBORO, N.C. -- The State Employees' Credit Union Foundation donated $750,000 to Home Health and Hospice Care to expand the Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

The new 13,000 square-foot wing, to be named the "SECU House at Kitty Askins Hospice Center," will increase the number of beds in the facility to 24 from 12.

"Our goal is to meet the hospice needs of our patients and their families by eliminating the waiting list for beds at Kitty Askins Hospice Center through this much-needed expansion," Dean Lee, president and CEO of Home Health and Hospice Care, says in a statement.

The foundation's gift increased total donations to $2 million, half the amount needed to expand the center.

By the end of the first year the new wing is in operation, the hospice estimates it will have provided more than 8,000 days of in-patient care.
