Heating campaign passes $1 million

RALEIGH, N.C. - Warmth for Wake, a program created to help Wake County residents cover their fuel costs during the winter, has passed a fundraising milestone.

The effort, which is sponsored by Wake County Human Services and the North Carolina Bankers Association, has collected more than $1 million in donations since its inception 30 years ago.

And because the program doesn't deduct administrative costs from donors' contributions, those in need receive the full amount of the donation to help keep warm.

Last year, donations totaling $29,500 were used to provide heating for about 200 households.

Since this winter is expected to be significantly colder than last, Warmth for Wake is counting on contributions from citizens, churches, businesses and other organizations to help keep neighbors warm this year.

Donations are accepted at any Wake County bank, or can be mailed to Warmth for Wake, PO Box 46833, Raleigh, N.C. 27620.
