High Point University helps boost local economy

HIGH POINT, N.C. - The growing number of out-of-town visitors to High Point University has a strong economic impact on the surrounding community.

Last year, the university attracted over 57,000 visitors to the city, boosting the money spent in restaurants, retail shops and hotels in the region.

The school's economic impact has jumped from $206 million to $320 million in the last few years, says Loren Hill, president of High Point Economic Development Corporation.

High Point University is a liberal arts institution with about 3,400 students from more than 40 states and 50 countries. It has campuses in High Point and Winston-Salem.

"We are truly High Point's university," Nido Qubein, the school's president, says in a statement. "And we continue to make strides to support businesses in our hometown."
