Learning sessions target racial inequity

MEBANE, N.C. -- The North Carolina People's Coalition for Giving will sponsor a learning series, beginning in March, to educate nonprofit professionals on the importance of racial diversity.

The first session, which will be held March 23 and led by Anne Kubisch, director of the Roundtable on Community Change at the Aspen Institute, will focus on the factors that combine to form a system of racial inequity in the U.S., including history, ideology, public policy and cultural factors.

The second session, which will be held April 6 and led by Lori Villarosa, executive director of the Philanthropic Initiative for Racial Equity, will discuss ways to address racial disparity through grantmaking.

The third session, which will be held May 8 and led by Sally Leiderman, president of the Center for Assessment and Policy Development, will focus on different ways of evaluating outcomes, including which are most effective.

All sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Stone House in Mebane.

Each session will be limited to 25 people, and priority will be given to teams of two or more. At least half of the each team's members must be people of color.

The cost for each individual session is $75 per person, or $150 for all three sessions if participants sign up for them at the same time. The deadline for registration is March 2.
