Myers named opera conductor

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Opera Company of North Carolina has hired Timothy Myers to serve as its principal conductor and artistic advisor.

Myers will spend 14 weeks in Raleigh during the 2008-09 performance season and will conduct the Opera Company's productions of I Pagliacci, Cenerentola and Rigoletto.

He will be responsible for casting the three productions and providing artistic planning assistance.

"Bringing Timothy on board marks a significant step forward for The Opera Company of North Carolina," Frank Grebowski, general director of the Opera Company, says in a statement.

Myers's first experience conducing for the Opera Company was the Janurary 2008 production of Lucia di Lammermoor.

He has conducted both operas and symphonies for companies such as the New York City Opera, Jerusalem Symphony and London BBC Symphony.

The Opera Company of North Carolina, located in Raleigh, works to bring full-scale opera productions and talent to the area.
