GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Guilford County is home to over 550 charitable nonprofits that spend over $2 billion a year and employ over 20,000 individuals, according to data from the N.C. Center for Nonprofits, says the Guilford Nonprofit Consortium, a collaborative group of over 175 nonprofits that works to foster mutual assistance and support.
Throughout North Carolina, nonprofits generate $31 billion for the state's economy and provide over 400,000 jobs, or nearly 10 percent of the state's workforce, according to the Employment Security Commission of North Carolina, the consortium says.
It says the economic impact of nonprofits on the state's economy has more than doubled over the past 10 years.
The Guilford County Board of Commissioners declared November as "Nonprofit Awareness Month."
