Policy forum set for February

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The N.C. Center for Nonprofits will hold its annual Public Policy Forum in Raleigh on February 20.

Designed for nonprofit staff, boards and volunteers, the day-long event will include legislative updates, tips for effective advocacy and advice for working with state and local lawmakers.

Gov.-elect Beverly Perdue has been invited to address the forum and state lawmakers will provide a budget update.

A series of breakout sessions will explore topics such as the dos and don'ts of foundation and nonprofit advocacy, evaluating advocacy outcomes, and understanding the basics of state ethics and lobbying rules.

Presenters include Sorien Schmidt of Action for Children N.C., Abby Levine of the Alliance for Justice, Chris Estes of the North Carolina Housing Coalition and Melinda Wiggins of Student Action with Farmworkers.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the McKimmon Center at North Carolina State University in Raleigh. Registration and pricing information are available online.
