Program feeds pets of homebound seniors

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Wake County has teamed with Resources for Seniors to launch AniMeals, a monthly community-outreach program that begins March 21 and will provide pet food for homebound pet owners.

"Resources for Seniors knows of many situations where seniors have chosen to purchase pet food for their beloved companions rather than purchasing food for themselves, or even purchasing their much-needed medications," Kimberly Pate, the organization's marketing coordinator, says in a statement.

Participants in the program will receive monthly allotments of food based on the size and number of their pets.

Eligible participants must be clients of Resources for Seniors, face financial hardship and have a physical limitation that makes leaving home difficult.

Unopened bags of pet food for the program may be donated at the loading dock of the SPCA Pet Adoption Center at 200 Petfinder Lane in Raleigh, near the intersection of Tryon Road and U.S. 70.
