WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Another UNC is on its way if trustees of the North Carolina School of the Arts get their way.
The school's board of trustees voted unanimously to rename the institution the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, a move the UNC Board of Governors will vote on at their May 9 meeting.
"This is a great time for our school to move forward and be recognized for what it is: the professional school of the arts for the state of North Carolina and the UNC system," John Mauceri, chancellor of the school, says in a statement.
While the mission of the school will remain the same, trustees hope the name change, which will highlight the school's status as a UNC-system institution, will help in fundraising and student recruitment.
The change also could clarify perceptions that the school is an arts magnet or only a high school.
