UNC plans for mega-campaign

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Having just completed the largest fundraising campaign in its history, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is gearing up for what reportedly would be an even bigger campaign.

The school completed its $2.4 billion Carolina First campaign on Dec. 31, 2007, and is beginning the planning process for its next foray, says Matt Kupec, the school's vice chancellor for advancement.

"We're going to bring together a volunteer planning group and spend about a year looking at all things associated with developing a campaign plan," he says.

That will include exploring the timing of the campaign, the fundraising goal, the case for raising money, the budget and a volunteer structure, says Kupec.

While he would not offer any potential dollar goals for the campaign, news reports say a recent memo from Kupec placed the goal at $3.5 billion to $4 billion.
