RALEIGH, N.C. - Boys and Girls Clubs of Wake County raised more than $900,000 during its 2009 Positive Place for Kids Campaign, falling short of its goal of $1.35 million and the more than $1.3 million raised in 2008.
However, the group, which serves more than 4,200 Wake County children ages 6 to 18, reached its goal of raising $100,000 from new donors, enabling it to qualify for a matching grant.
The campaign, which launched in February, will pay for children to attend summer camp and after-school programs.
"Raising over $900,000 in this current economic crisis is truly a testimony of our board of directors' and the community's dedication to the well-being of young people in Wake County," Ralph Capps, president and CEO of the group, says in a statement.
Lead donors include BJ's Wholesale Club, Cargill Grain & Oilseed Supply Chain, Capital Bank and Ride Aid Foundation.
Guy Lucas served as president of the campaign; Steven Lilly served as vice president.
