Wake Hospice launches campaign

RALEIGH, N.C. -- With almost $11 million raised so far, Hospice of Wake County has launched the public phase of a campaign to bring in $13 million.

The funds will allow the organization to construct a three-building facility on Trinity Road in Raleigh.

The campus will contain a 19,000 square-foot building housing 20 suites and a gathering space for families.

An administrative building will house Hospice staff and a grief center, and a third building will serve as a sanctuary for services and reflection.

Launched in 2005, the campaign is chaired by Smedes York of York Properties and William Dunlap of Raleigh Medical Group.

The 8.64 acres of land for the project were donated to Hospice by the state, and Wake County and its local municipalities have contributed $3 million to the effort.

"Currently, we're the only metropolitan area in North Carolina that doesn't have its own freestanding facility," Patricia Evans, major gifts coordinator, says in a statement. "With so many people who are touched by hospice services wherever they are, this facility should bring peace of mind to everyone living in this community."
