Dec. 1: Methodist University, Goodwill, Arts Council, and more

Ben E. Hancock Jr., vice-president for university advancement, Ball State University, Muncie, Ind., named president, Methodist University, Fayetteville, effective March 1, 2011.
John W. Googe, whose parents, along with fellow members of John Wesley Clay Bible Class at Centenary United Methodist Church, founded Winston-Salem Goodwill Industries in 1926, and who joined its board in 1953 and served as board chairman from 1960 to 1963 and later served on national Goodwill board, received inaugural Heritage Award, Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina.
Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County selected new board members -- Brenda Allen, provost, Winston-Salem State University; Steve Berlin, partner, Kilpatrick Stockton; Walt Carpenter, senior vice president, strategy and planning, RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co.; Lawren Desai, owner, a/perture cinema; Mike Ernst, senior vice president and general manager, direct-to-consumer businesses, Hanesbrands; and Anna Gallimore, director of administration, Salem Academy and College.
