Bay Area pays off for fundraisers

Professional fundraisers in the Bay Area of California are faring well in their pay, with planned-giving professionals receiving the most, an average annual salary totaling $107,141, a new study says.

The study by CompAnalysis, a compensation consulting firm, is based on pay and benefits data submitted by 105 Bay Area nonprofits.

Across the Bay Area, salaries for major-gift officers average $88,802, while the base pay for an entry-level professional at a foundation or philanthropy-related nonprofit is $39,500.

Among nonprofits with annual fundraising revenue of $2 million to $5 million, the average annual pay for a professional-level employee is $52,570.

Of all the areas in the region, Silicon Valley pays the most across all job functions, while the Central Coast pays the least.

Almost one in 10 development professionals in the Bay Area receive incentive pay, the study says, and 4 percent receive year-end bonuses based on their performance.
