Cell-phone banking in Haiti gets $10 million boost
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and U.S. Agency for International Development today will announce a $10 million fund to bring mobile money services to Haiti that let people deposit and withdraw money using their cell phones, The Washington Post reported June 9 (see Gates USAID story).
Heifer Foundation gets new president and CEO
Domingo Barrios of Houston, founder and president of The Nonprofit Coach and former vice president of the Greater Houston Foundation, has been named president and CEO of Little Rock-based Heifer Foundation, replacing Janet Ginn, who resigned in May 2009 after being accused of plagiarism and copyright infringement, Arkansas News reported June 8 (see Heifer Foundation story).
Seattle-area performing arts center gets $25 million
The Tateuchi Foundation is giving $25 million for a performing arts center in Bellevue, Wash., one of the biggest ever to an arts or cultural group in the area, The Seattle Times reported June 8 (see performing-arts gift story).
