Corporations increasingly are finding not only the philanthropic value of giving back but also the business value of building their community investment into their business practices, Michelle Nunn, CEO of the Points of Light Institute and co-founder of the HandsOn Network, says in a guest opinion column May 10 in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (see corporate giving article).
Ad agency sues Feed the Children
A New York ad agency is suing Oklahoma City-based Feed the Children for alleged breach of contract, claiming the charity breached a binding three-year agreement with the agency to do all its advertising, the Oklahoman reported May 10 (see charity lawsuit article).
Regulator closes Canadian foundation
The Canadian Revenue Agency shut down the Orion Foundation, a sham AIDS charity that claimed it was curing disease in Africa with over $200 million in life-saving drugs but was operated for the "private gain" of the directors and boss, whose side business involved pricey escort agencies, the Toronto Star reported 11 (see bogus charity article).
