Foundation creates evaluation toolkit

In an effort to help foundations develop better evaluation strategies, the James Irvine Foundation has created a set of evaluation tools for funders.

The Evaluation Kit for Trustees is based on information collected from foundation trustees, CEOs and evaluation experts through interviews conducted by FSG Social Impact Advisors.

The kit, available online, contains a summary of trustees' thoughts on evaluation, as well as case studies that show how evaluation has been used successfully.

A self-assessment tool allows trustees to gain a better understanding of the purposes, methods and costs of evaluation, while a planning guide provides possible strategies.

Finally, the kit contains a framework to guide trustees' discussions about evaluation.
