Gates Foundation invests in social-media product focused on education

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will invest $2 million in educational-technology company Inigral Inc. to fund the development and marketing of Schools App, the company's Facebook-like social-media technology product that focuses on education and is expected to increase college retention rates, International Business Times reported Feb. 9 (see social media story).

Bloomberg trails only Soros among U.S. philanthropists

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg donated $279.2 million to charity in 2010, ranking second after financier George Soros on the list of most generous philanthropists in the U.S. last year compiled by ,the Chronicle of Philanthropy and Slate magazine, The Wall Street Journal reported Feb. 8 (see Bloomberg charity story).
