Giving to aid relief in Pakistan lags donations to Haiti
Charitable giving by individuals, foundations and companies to help victims of the flood disaster in Pakistan totaled $25 million as of Aug. 30, according to the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, compared to $900 million Americans gave to relief efforts in Haiti within five weeks of the earthquake there, NPR reported Sept. 2 (see Pakistan relief story).

Funders like the Grameen Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation are counting on mobile technology to help boost economic development in poor countries, The Washington Post reported Sept. 3 (see mobile technology story).
Business group giving $4 million for urban Catholic schools
A business group pledged $4 million in matching grants to help seven urban Catholic schools in the Philadelphia area create endowments during the 2010-11 academic year, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Sept. 3 (see Catholic schools story).
