Google says it generated $54 billion for business, nonprofits

Google says it helped generate $54 billion in business activity for companies, web publishers and nonprofits last year, a report critics say is a move to improve its image in the face of greater scrutiny, the Los Angeles Times reported May 25 (see Google charity story).

Yale donor indicted in scheme that benefited the school

Manhattan prosecutors indicted John Mazzuto on charges of fraudulently inflating the value of a company he owned to mislead investors into buying worthless stock, and alleged he also gave some shares to Yale, which sold the stock before its value plunged and thus earned about $1.5 million, The New York Times reported May 25 (see Yale donor story).

Groupon, DonorsChoose.org partner on digital pledge drive

Group buying website Groupon has teamed up with DonorsChoose.org, a website that lets donors make donations that meet needs teachers post on the site, to create the digital version of public-radio pledge drives where businesses offer to match listener donations during a set period of time, The New York Times reported May 25 (see digital charity drive story).
