Harvard's endowment to shed some real-estate holdings

Harvard's $26 billion endowment wants to sell some of its $5 billion real-estate holdings in an effort to find better investment options and limit its exposure in the troubled real-estate market, The Wall Street Journal reported Feb. 17 (see Harvard endowment story).

Review of N.J. tax policies' affect on charitable giving urged

Tax policies should be reexamined in New Jersey, which a recent study found lost nearly $1 billion in expected charitable giving between 2004 and 2008 because of a big drop in wealth moving into the state and an increase in wealth leaving, Hans Dekker, president of the Community Foundation of New Jersey, says in a guest column Feb. 16 in the Star-Ledger in Newark (see taxes and charity story).

Google gives $2 million to Wikimedia Foundation

Google donated $2 million to the Wikimedia Foundation, which operates Wikipedia and focused on free, multi-lingual content to wiki-based projects, the Washington Post reported Feb. 16 (see Google donation story).
