Harvard Law seeds grads' nonprofit careers

Harvard Law School is creating a Public Service Venture Fund that will award $1 million every year in seed money for start-up nonprofit ventures and salary support to students who hope to pursue postgraduate work at nonprofits or government agencies in the U.S. and abroad, the Harvard Gazette reported Feb. 10 (see Harvard nonprofit story).

‘Guerrilla' giving growing

Through the Secret Society for Creative Philanthropy, a growing number of "guerrilla" givers, mostly writers, artists and media people,­ each give $100 to another round of friends and ask them to give it away, Forbes reported Feb. 9 (see guerrilla philanthropy story).

Haiti charity song posts record sales

Simon Cowell's song, Everybody Hurts, featuring Leona Lewis and Mariah Carey, has become the fastest-selling charity single this century, with all proceeds going to help the victims of the Haiti earthquake. BBC News reported Feb. 9 (see Haiti relief record).

Ticket sales down at Philadelphia Orchestra

Ticket sales were down last fall at the financially troubled Philadelphia Orchestra, which has raised $8 million from donors for a planned $15 million emergency fund, The New York Times reported Feb. 9 (see Philadelphia Orchestra story).
