New generation of givers sets own course

Charities worry as a new generation of givers supports causes they care about that differ from those their parents supported, The Wall Street Journal reported March 9 (see new philanthropy story).

Shakeup at Bethesda Make-a-Wish chapter

The Bethesda, Md., chapter of the Make-a-Wish Foundation replaced its president after its national headquarters looked into staff complaints about management style -- and after 19 members of its 20-person local board of directors quit a few days earlier, the Washington Post reported March 9 (see Make-a-Wish story).

$1 billion payoff possible from purchase of private college

ITT Educational Services Inc. purchased debt-ridden Daniel Webster College for $20.8 million, securing an academic credential that could reap a taxpayer-funded payoff worth up to $1 billion, the Boston Globe reported March 9 (see for-profit college story).
